London Fields Lido
The only 50-metre Olympic-sized, heated, outdoor pool in the capital, London Fields Lido was brought back into use in 2006, and further refurbished in 2017.
The beautifully restored 1930s pool now boasts modern facilities: a sunbathing terrace, gender neutral changing area, floodlights for early morning and late night swims, and disability access including a pool hoist.
One to one swimming lessons and group classes are available for all age groups and a number of swimming clubs meet at the lido.
The building also has a cafe, called Hoxton Beach, which is open to both the pool and park side, and there is an additional kiosk during the busy summer months.
It first opened in 1932 and remained so - apart from during the Second World War - until its closure in 1988. Then in 2004, Hackney council and architects, with support from residents and user groups worked to restore and reopen the pool.
The pool and cafe are open all year around, weather permitting.
