Anna Crystal Stephens: Anorak at SPACE until 23 March
Ever felt like chucking it all in and running for the hills? Then maybe take a wander round a new show at SPACE Mare Street first.
Anorak by Anna Crystal Stephens explores the mythological hold that the wild has always held over city dwellers.
It is an 'examination of the tension between survival and leisure, as illustrated through popular holiday activities such as camping and canal boating'.
To illustrate this, the artist takes items of practical outdoor kit and repurposes them, with Gore-Tex and polyester rope woven in with twigs and pallets to make shelters, banners and wands.
Guides to self-building are arranged into an archive; fire-starting tools displayed in the form of a specimen chart, and tarpaulin structures catalogued by typologies.
