Made in Hackney
The founders of this community food kitchen believe everyone should be able to grow, cook and eat nutritious food that's good for both people and planet.
Based in a kitchen nestled underneath the not-for-profit health food shop Food For All, in Stoke Newington, they run courses and workshops in cookery techniques using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.
Many courses begin with an introduction to food growing, so participants develop a relationship with fresh produce from soil to saucepan. They also cover home composting, ethical food sourcing and using local food in multi-cultural cuisine.
The project offers free training and competitive hire rates to local food start-ups, provides a facility for local growers to process surplus crops into products, and has an apprentice and volunteer programme.
