This convivial pub, which is in a great location just off buzzing Hoxton Square, has had its ups and downs over the years.

Incongruously visited by Madonna back in the day when Shoreditch was at its cool-hunting heights, it hit the headlines again in 2012 when a chef was convicted of spiking chocolate truffles with MDMA and serving them to customers.

This may or may not be an enticement to visit, but once inside, this Tardis-like establishment stretches up over four floors leading to a pleasantly surprising, if small roof terrace, which is always packed out in the summer.

There's a good selection of beers, wines and spirits, plus two floors are available to book for parties, exhibitions and events.
