Right Now Film Festival
Want to explore what's really going on right now, around the world? You could do worse than starting right here, in your neighbourhood cinema.
The Right Now Film Festival might be a small indy festival, but it has big ambitions. It was set up to interrogate the global issues from which mainstream cinema might shy away, bringing five edgy documentary films to independent cinemas.
From 6 to 12 May, at Dalston's Rio Cinema, you can watch featurelength docs about whistleblower cops in New York, the growing movement of Flat-Earthers, Syrian refugees who have eight months to 'learn to be American' and an Irish farmer's battle against a multinational giant. Its organisers promise that all five films 'take a deeper look at power structures and inequalities in the world today.' So get booking.
